Fiber in the 21st Century Art World
Elissa Auther will discuss the explosion of fiber and fiber-based practices in contemporary art and everyday life. The 21st century has witnessed a tremendous increase in the visibility of fiber in art, a rise related to the broader currency of craft within the context of the DIY and artisan movements, among other social, political, and cultural forces. In this talk, Auther discusses this terrain, with an emphasis on the unique role fiber has played in the expansion of artistic practice today.
