Kate Bright (British, b. 1964) teaches at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College, London. She studied at Camberwell School of Art and Goldsmith’s College, both in London. She has shown frequently in England, had solo exhibits in Turin and Salamanca and was included in the British Council survey, Tailsliding that traveled to venues in Italy, Spain and Norway. She has been represented by Locks Gallery since 2004 and her exhibition of new paintings opens there on November 2.
Barry Schwabsky is art critic for The Nation and co-editor of international reviews for Artforum. His books include The Widening Circle: Consequences of Modernism in Contemporary Art (Cambridge University Press, 1997), Vitamin P: New Perspectives in Painting (Phaidon Press, 2002), Opera: Poems 1981-2002 (Meritage Press, 2003), Book Left Open in the Rain (Black Square Editions/The Brooklyn Rail, 2009), and Vitamin P2: New Perspectives in Painting (Phaidon Press, 2011). Just released is A Voice Hears You from Mysterious Places, a CD of poetry and music made in collaboration with Marianne Nowottny (Abaton Book Company).
Barry Schwabsky curated the exhibit, Post Flat, New Art from London in 2003 that included Bright and while based in London wrote several pieces on the artist.
