DESCRIPTION:On Thursday, November 1, join artist Emily Cobb and Moore College of Art and Design Art History Professor Maureen Pelta for a conversation about jewelry, narrative, and myth in the decorative arts. Emily Cobb\'s exhibition \"Legends\" features works of jewelry inspired by complex fairy tales of her own invention. Symbolism and classical myth have long been important inspirations for the design of jewelry, and Cobb\'s work adds a layer of modern mythology to an ancient art form. Emily Cobb received her MFA from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She uses CAD-CAM and 3D printing processes to create her work, finding inspiration for each piece from personal fables which often contain animals as central parts of the imagery. Her work has recently been featured in Showcase 500 Rings: New Directions in Art Jewelry published by Lark Books, and Humor in Craft by Brigitte Martin. \"Legends\" was recently reviewed in The Artblog. An expert on Renaissance art, Maureen Pelta received her PhD from Bryn Mawr College. She is currently the Chair of Art Education, Art History, Curatorial Studies, Liberal Arts, Professor at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, where she previously co-taught the History of 20th Century Craft and Design with Professor Lewis Knauss.
