Meet Our Student Ambassadors

Our Student Ambassadors are student leaders who work for the Admissions department here at Moore. They will be leading campus tours when you visit this year. They are here to answer any questions from the student perspective, show you the College, and share their personal experiences.

Lydia
Hi, my name is Lydia and I am a first year student at Moore. I will be majoring in Fine Arts:2D with a minor in Textile Design. Coming from small town Bangor, Maine I was nervous about living in Philadelphia by myself. But, with only three weeks into school I feel very comfortable in the city because of the strong community Moore provides. Each of my teachers demonstrates intelligent and inspirational qualities which make each class exciting. Already, I feel smarter! I enjoy working on each of my homework assignments and projects. My teachers offer assistance when I need it and supply an encouraging environment. I chose Moore because I wanted to be able to understand what it means to be a strong, independent woman and I am already discovering new qualities in myself. During the weekends after I finish my homework I am able to explore Philadelphia and go out with my friends. I feel very comfortable and safe taking leisurely walks around Philadelphia. At night, my friends and I have fun going to the retro movie theatre, the Roxy, which is free for all Moore students. We also enjoy going out to dance and to museums. I am excited that the women at Moore showed me the interesting possibilities Philadelphia has to offer! I know I will graduate from Moore with a confident outlook on my future!

Davinica
Hey ladies! I’m Davinica and this is my first year at Moore. I’m an Illustration major and Creative Writing minor. The moment I walked into Moore I knew this was my new home. Everyone here has made adjusting to college insanely easy and fun. I just got through my first week of classes and I love all of my teachers already! I already feel like I’m a part of the community here and not just some tourist. I come from the Berkshires (rural Massachusetts) and Rhode Island, so I’m definitely not used to the city. Philadelphia is perfect for an art student. Everything I could ever need in the city is within walking distance.  I’ve only been here a week and most of my teachers already know me and talk to me in the hallway.  The close-knit community is one of the main things that drew me to Moore. I have always been focused on getting a career in the arts and everyone in this school is helping me reach my goals.

Hey! My name is Jess and I’m a Graphic Design student at Moore. I am originally from a suburb called Hamilton, NJ, which is just outside of Trenton, NJ. My experiences at Moore have had a great effect on me as I prepare to graduate this coming May. I’ve met irreplaceable friends and created fantastic pieces of work along the way. The realization that Moore was the place for me was not immediate. I really debated on where I wanted to go, though I was determined to go to an art school. It took two campus visits and searching the website (like you’re doing now) to realize this was the place for me. And it was! Moore returns to you all the hard work you put into it. I’ve participated in Student Leadership groups since I was a sophomore; two years in Residence Life and this year I am in Student Government. Moore gives you opportunities; don’t let them pass you by!

Naichelle
Hey ladies, I’m Naichelle and I am a Junior Fashion Design major, minoring in Business. I was offered a chance to be apart of the Business Scholars in the Arts, which is a scholarship and program for transfer students to help them get better acquainted with the school and help develop business skills. Being at Moore has helped me a lot in raising my skill level, potential, and my confidence in myself, as well as in my work. With Moore being such a small college, you get a chance to meet and know everyone by the time you graduate. Those relationships can turn into life-long friendships well after graduation. Moore’s faculty loves to see every student succeed and they help move everyone along to get them ready for the world after art school. As a junior, I have my required summer internship coming up and Moore makes it possible for every student to get where they want to go with a $1,000 Internship Fellowship, as well as other opportunities to apply for other fellowships. They are by you every step of the way helping you put your portfolio together, assisting with finding a company you like; they even help you get in contact with the main person in charge to help you set up your internship. Another great thing about Moore is that the alumnae are such amazing women, and they are always willing to help or answer any questions you may have about life after Moore, or even their time at the college. Being at Moore has changed me for the better, while getting the chance to be around some of the most amazing females I have ever met.

Lynne
Hi everyone! I’m Lynne, and one of the Student Ambassadors here at Moore. I am a junior, majoring in Fine Arts:2D and minoring in Creative Writing.  I love it here, and could not be happier with my choice to attend Moore. The small class sizes are perfect for me; I can really get one-on-one help from professors, who not only know my name, but also my artistic style, and my strengths and weaknesses. My professors are all working on their own art outside of Moore, so it is helpful to talk to someone who is working in the field. Everyone in the school is always more than willing to help you out with anything – whether it is finding a good place to eat, advice on your studio work, directions to their favorite art gallery, or help in writing your resume. My studio courses have transformed me into a better artist, while my liberal arts classes broadened my horizons and expanded my creative thinking.  Moore has truly become not only my college, but also my home. I am able to participate in leadership programs, funded internships, field trips, and so much more. Not only is the college shaping my learning experience, the area around me is as well. The Parkway is not only home to Moore, but to many great museums like the Philadelphia Museum of Art, National History Museum, and soon, the famous Barnes Foundation.  Philadelphia is such a culturally rich place, and Moore is right in the center of it all. It is the perfect place to be an artist. In fact Philadelphia was listed as one of the top “artistic cities” to be in. From First Friday, to concerts in the park, to even all of the public art surrounding us it is impossible not to feel inspired in this city. I am so lucky to be getting my education at Moore. If you are interested in seeing what I am currently working on, or reading more about what my experience at Moore is like, check out my art blog at www.lynnaeart.com. Feel free to ask any questions you have as well!

Christine Tilton

Christine
Hey ladies and parents! My name is Christine Tilton. I’m a sophomore here at Moore. I am majoring in Curatorial Studies with a minor in Photography & Digital Arts. I'm so excited to start my curatorial and photography classes this year! Through Emerging Leaders in the Arts, I have become part of the community working with the National Liberty Museum in Old City. The importance of the whole city as our campus was a huge driving force as to why I wanted to attend Moore. I am from Maine so the jump from small town woods to the big city was a big change. I have loved every step and continue to find new and exciting activities in the city. Philadelphia has so much to offer and Moore creates a perfect bridge connecting student body with the city.

Marah Carpenter

Marah
Hey everyone! I’m Marah Carpenter and I’m a Senior Fashion Design major, with a Fine Arts:2D minor. I grew up in Texas and recently moved to New Hampshire with my family, so I have now experienced the two extremes in temperature! Being here has given me invaluable lessons to become the woman I want to be in both fashion and fine arts. I’ve made great improvement in technique and aesthetics since I started my college life here at Moore and this is attributed to the extensive curriculum, close-knit community with students and staff. There are massive amounts of opportunities here, such as Student Government (which I’m the president of). Moore has given me a new confidence in the way I approach my work, be it for class or for my leadership position. I absolutely love this school and can’t imagine any other place I could have attended for my four years of college. I hope ya’ll come to visit us so I (and all the rest of us) can show you all the great things in, about and around Moore. See you soon!!!

Rachel Tornatore

Rachel
Hello! My name is Rachel and I’m a senior at Moore majoring in Illustration and minoring in Graphic Design. I’m from a little town in New Jersey, called Clayton. The instant after my first tour of Moore, I knew that this is where I wanted to spend the next four years of my life. With this being my final year, I couldn’t be happier with that decision. I can’t believe how quickly the last three years have flown by! It’s great that Moore is a small college; I really get a lot of one-on-one attention in classes from my professors. What I love most about Moore is the help and support that everyone offers one another within our community. My faculty and my classmates are always here for me and pushing me to work harder to be the best illustrator I can be. I know I can always count on my Illustration peers for advice on my work. I am so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve had at Moore. Through work experience, leadership skills, and the knowledge I gain in my classes, I feel that I am being well prepared for success in the professional art world. Check out my blog as I report on my senior thesis and final year at Moore: http://rtorn.tumblr.com/
