About Hybrid Online Classes at Moore
Each Continuing Education Certificate Program now includes two courses offered in a hybrid online format. They enable students to alternate on-campus scheduled class meetings with at-home or anywhere/anytime access to lectures, online discussions, blogs, and other course materials and assignments. For the online sessions, students use a basic Internet connection to enter the classroom, in which instructors post lectures, provide resources, ask and answer questions, assign projects, and assess progress. Students discuss topics by posting comments, as if in a traditional classroom. The online experience provides students with visually rich interactive learning. In the first on-campus class, students will be provided with an orientation to navigating the online classroom including basic guidelines about postings and communication. Ongoing support will be available by telephone or email.
How to Participate in Online Sessions
Students must obtain and maintain computer access to the Internet with a current browser. Additional software is required only when the primary goal of the course is to teach a specific application. To participate, students must enter their user ID and password, which will be provided to you via email after the registration and prior to the first class.
You will find a link to your online “classroom” at http://moodle.moorecollege.net. For online classes, Moore uses Moodle, a widely used course management system. The instructor presents material on Moodle and then interacts with students by responding to the comments they post. The Moodle dialogue is similar to discussions traditionally held in a classroom. Posting comments and reading responses is easy, especially if you have ever participated on a Web discussion board or left a comment on a blog. A Moodle orientation will be provided by your instructor during the first class. In addition, the Moodle site includes a “First Time Using Moodle” link to a student guide and list of resources available by phone or email.
What is the Advantage of Online Study?
The advantage of online study is that you can participate in discussions asynchronously, any time of the day or night. You don’t have to be online at the same time as your classmates, but because you can read all the comments every time you are “in class,” you’ll feel as if everyone is together. Though each course is different, we strongly recommend that you log in to your class a minimum of three times per week.
