FASHION STUDIES CERTIFICATE

The Fashion Studies Program emphasizes the expertise and knowledge needed for success in today’s fashion environment. The program is designed for individuals with a passion for fashion seeking to acquire expertise for entering the fashion field, as well as for experienced professionals needing to develop specialized proficiencies.

Courses are directed toward teaching high-demand skills and include each phase of apparel creation and development.  Advanced courses include portfolio development projects designed to hone marketable competencies.

Participants may choose one of two tracks:

Apparel Construction Track:
Designed for students who want to develop advanced skills in all aspects of garment construction needed to take a design from concept to finished product. It is appropriate for those interested in creating custom apparel; filling niche markets such as costume design and custom bridal; becoming part of an apparel company; or pursuing businesses of their own.

Technical Design Track:
Prepares students to enter the fashion industry in the creative area of technical design and illustration.  Experts in contemporary fashion methods, technical designers work hand-in-hand with fashion designers to translate concepts into overall packages for producing the fashion designer’s vision.  Technical designers are in demand in fashion specialty companies and many other kinds of retail companies that include segments involved in the manufacture and sale of clothing.

The development of personal vision and innovative problem solving are encouraged along with technical proficiency.  Classes take place in modern studios and the Fox Center for Digital Arts, Design Media & Printing with state-of-the-art equipment and industry-utilized software.

A flexible and dynamic approach to learning is based on the time-honored strengths of Moore’s degree programs and the experience of our award-winning faculty, who are committed to sharing their knowledge and bringing real world know-how into the classroom.

The comprehensive curriculum comprises eight courses that can - but are not required to – be completed in one year.  Students earn undergraduate-level credit which may apply to undergraduate degrees or be used to meet graduate degree prerequisite requirements.  Certificate graduates are prepared to go forward in a creative and fulfilling career.

Moore’s vibrant Philadelphia campus is home to a close-knit community. As an educational leader, Moore is committed to developing confident students with the professional skills to succeed.
