Senior Featured at International Fashion Show

Dec 10, 2007
Diva Borrelli, a senior Fashion Design student at Moore College of Art & Design, recently had her work featured in the Arts of Fashion 2007 Competition and International Symposium that took place at November 1-3, 2007 in Miami, Fla.

With approximately 500 entries from around the world, Borrelli was selected as one of the 62 finalists (representing 20 countries) chosen to compete in this year's fashion/clothing division; another 22 students were selected for the accessory design division. Acclaimed Belgian designer Veronique Branquinho presided over the competition.

The annual Arts of Fashion Symposium and Competition are presented by the Arts of Fashion Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to international cultural exchange through a variety of events designed to promote critical thinking among artists, designers, scholars and students.

The theme for this year's Arts of Fashion Competition was "Confusion," with Borrelli creating a design that represented the color wheel and symbolized a vision through colorblind eyes. To create the dress, the Moore senior used teal taffeta, coral umbrae and royal blue silk charmeuse. "My key fabrication has a variety of sheer, colored, circular shapes. This fabric represents the color wheel and symbolizes a vision through colorblind eyes," notes Borrelli. "Layering the circular fabric over the colored fabrics creates a unique effect. Collaborating the draping of fabrics, applying fabric-covered, tinted PVC circles and accenting with net blindfolds transpire visual 'Color Confusion.'"

Borrelli's colorful composition has been reproduced extensively in recent press surrounding the competition, including the Miami Herald and the Style Bubble blog.
