$1 Million Gift Funds Jane Walentas Scholarship & Travel Fellowship
Mar 09, 2008
"When I think of what is really important to me, Moore is one of them, says Jane Walentas. "Moore truly did change my life."
"We are honored that Jane and David have chosen to invest so generously in Moore's future," President Happy Craven Fernandez said. "We are so grateful for their commitment and creative spirit. This leadership gift is the largest endowed BFA scholarship the College has ever received."
There are no restrictions on the Jane Walentas Endowed Scholarship with respect to geography, academic discipline or financial need. The scholarship is particularly exciting because it also recognizes the importance of the global perspective in educating contemporary visual artists. With this recognition, the selected student will also be awarded a $4,000 Jane Walentas International Travel Fellowship to be used between her junior and senior years at Moore College of Art & Design.
An advertising design major in the class of 1966 at Moore, Jane Walentas worked for many years as an art director for Estée Lauder, Inc. She has spent the last 22 years lovingly restoring an all-original 48-horse carousel made in 1922 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. Jane is a member of Moore's Board of Trustees and she and her husband have been the prime movers in the transformation of the section of Brooklyn known as DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass).
All accepted students will automatically be considered for this prestigious scholarship. Selection will be based on portfolio excellence and exceptional academic history. The selected student will be notified between March 15 and April 1, 2008.
