Moe Brooker Appointed to Chair City's Art Commission
Feb 17, 2008
Moe Brooker is an internationally known abstract painter whose work can be found in collections across the US, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the African American Museum of Philadelphia, the Cleveland Museum, The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York City and The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Mr. Brooker has previously served as a member of the Art Commission.
Along with Brooker, the Mayor appointed seven members to the Commission: José Alminana, Sean Buffington, Karen Davis, Emmanuel Kelly, Robert Nix, Robert Roesch and Patricia Alexander Sanford. "The Art Commission plays an important role in overseeing public art in Philadelphia," said Mayor Nutter. "These eight individuals will bring great perspective and expertise to the Art Commission."
The Art Commission is the City's charter-mandated design review board for architecture and art. The Commission must approve the designs of all construction and alterations that are paid for wholly or in part with City money or that are on City land, including streets. Art Commission approval is also required for construction and/or signs on private property in certain special control areas. The Commission also reviews and approves proposals for the acquisition of new works of public art and conservation treatments to the City's existing collection, executed by the Public Art Office.
