ED326 Laboratory Experiences and Practicum

This pre-student-teaching experience takes place in Moore’s Young Artists Workshop classes and at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Students work with certified art teachers in planning and teaching lessons. Satisfies: Major Requirement
ED327 Special Populations

Prerequisites: ED313 and ED321
This is a one on one teaching experience for Moore students with special needs children under the supervision of a certified Special Education teacher. For 10 weeks, the class time will be split between teaching art to the children and learning teaching methods and accommodations especially for special needs students. In addition, Moore students will learn how to identify various exceptionalities, gain knowledge in applying strategies to accommodate special needs students in their self-contained classroom and as they are mainstreamed. State and Federal laws will be explored. Satisfies: Major Requirement
ED501 Student Teaching

Prerequisites: All other Art Education required courses; Co-requisite: ED501S
The required twelve weeks (60 full days) of student teaching are taken in the Fall or Spring. Seminars are held every other week during which student teachers share experiences and reflect on specific classroom problems and solutions. Satisfies: Major Requirement

This course is designed to provide student teachers with a better understanding of art education programs and to provide support and resources needed for success in the student teacher placements. Emphasis will be on the student teachers’ work in their placements and discussions in class that focus on enriching the content and creativity of the lesson, providing instruction for special needs students, multicultural issues and incorporating art history, interdisciplinary content, art criticism and aesthetics. Behavior and classroom management will be a weekly focus. Satisfies: Major Requirement
GFA501 Senior Project

Prerequisites: All Junior level requirements
General Fine Arts & Art Education majors will take Senior Project along with Student Teaching in their senior year. This course requires students to write a paper that links their art with their goal of teaching or how their art and teaching have influenced each other. Students will have an advisor in addition to the faculty leading the course and will present in front of the full class and faculty. Satisfies: Major Requirement
