Moore Fashion Design Students to Compete at Philadelphia Fashion Week

October 2, 2009

Moore fashion design students will compete for an encore runway show and display at Macy’s Center City during Philadelphia Fashion Week October 8-10, 2009.

The works created by student designers from the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Philadelphia University and Moore College will share the runway with some of the biggest names in fashion at the inaugural Philadelphia Fashion Week, a three-day celebration of fashion, arts, culture and dining.

Each night will open with a runway show featuring more than 30 looks from a group of students hand-picked by their professors to compete for the first-ever Student Design Award. The winning school will be announced by a representative of Macy’s on the last night of Philadelphia Fashion Week on Saturday, October 10, 2009.

Moore students will showcase their fashion designs on Thursday, October 8, 2009 from 5:00 - 6:00 pm at the 23rd Street Armory.

The winning school will have a chance to show their winning looks for spring/summer 2010 in an encore runway performance at Macy’s Center City store on Monday, October 13, 2009 in the Grand Court.

Beginning on September 28, 2009, the “community” window of Macy’s Center City location—a window that regular showcases special events in Philadelphia—will serve as a “teaser” for the Student Design Award competition.

Passersby will notice the window’s scenes progress from a designer’s bench with measuring tape before Philadelphia Fashion Week to the winning student designs from October 13 – October 16, 2009.

The runway shows for each school will last approximately 20 minutes and will feature more than two dozen looks. The winning school will be chosen based on criteria of five factors -- creativity, production of show, execution, marketability and overall cohesiveness of the show.

The winning designs will also be featured on Philadelphia Fashion Week’s official Web site after the Student Design Award winner is announced.
