Fashion Faux Paw was the theme of Moore’s 14th Jumpstart Fashion Show, held on September 30, 2009 at the College. Traditionally the first fashion show of the new school year, junior and senior fashion design students had to devise, design and showcase a garment based on a theme in one month’s time.

Moore is pleased to host its inaugural Graduate Symposia: Cohousing: Building Sustainable and Intentional Communities, a free day-long program on October 10, 2009. The symposia, sponsored by the Interior Design Graduate Program at Moore, includes discussion and discovery about the history, theories and practice of creating and living in cohousing.

A mural created by Frank Hyder, Professor, Fine Arts and four students in his Mural Painting class now covers the walls of Bell Floor Covering Company on North 2nd Street.

Philadelphia Inquirer editor Cathy Rubin will speak at Moore's Convocation on Thursday, August 27. Rubin has been a journalist for 16 years, and is currently editor of the Inquirer's Style & Soul section, as well as “I” magazine.

Several hundred people attended the June 26 opening reception of Bicycle: people + ideas in motion, sponsored by The Galleries at Moore. Bicycle: people + ideas in motion celebrates Philadelphia’s passion and commitment to the bicycle with a series of changing exhibitions, programs and events that explore the bicycle both as functional object and as a canvas for good causes, personal expression, civic mindedness and political beliefs.

The July issue of Town and Country magazine introduces readers to The Art Shop at Moore. The issue devoted to Philanthropy, highlights the Shop's unique mission to offer students and alumnae a retail venue while helping to "give back" a percentage to the College.

The Wilma Theater welcomes a distinguished group of speakers on Monday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. for The Metamorphoses of Sigmund: Freud and His Afterlives, a panel discussion in conjunction with the East Coast premiere of Hysteria, by Terry Johnson. Directed by Jiri Zizka, the production brings the theater's 30th anniversary season to a close and runs May 13 through June 14, 2009.

The inaugural class of graduate students at Moore will be on campus Tuesday May 19, as orientation begins for the new masters of fine arts degree program in Interior Design. In addition to the MFA in Interior Design, Moore is launching two other graduate degrees for men and women beginning this summer. They include an MFA in studio Arts and an MA in Art Education with an emphasis in special populations.

Michael Olszewski:Recent Work opens January 22, 2009 at the List Gallery at Swarthmore College. The exhibition featuring fiber constructions and watercolors by the artist runs January 22 to February 25, 2009.Olszewski, a professor of textile design at Moore College of Art & Design, received a PEW Fellowship in the Arts in 2003. He is in numerous distinguished collections including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, the National Museum of American Art, and The Musuem of Fine Arts, Boston. The exhibition includes recent fiber constructions and watercolors.

Moore College of Art & Design will host the Philadelphia premiere of the award-winning documentary film on painter, alumna, Alice Neel (1900-1984) at 6 pm on November 12, in Stewart Auditorium. The film and conversation with the director Andrew Neel, the grandson of Alice Neel is FREE and open to the public.

In honor of the 160th Anniversary of Moore College of Art & Design, alumnae are celebrating on a large scale. This summer, fourteen alumnae were commissioned to decorate twelve six-foot boots to mark the pathways and accomplishments made by School's gutsy graduates over 16 decades. The boots are as varied as the artists and designers who created them. Representing seven different disciplines and generations, the artists' boots are on view city-wide through May 2009. The indoor sculptures can be seen in such places as City Hall, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the Free Library and The Four Seasons Hotel.

Moore College of Art & Design presented world-renowned fashion designer Mary McFadden with its 2008 Visionary Woman Award at a ceremony on September 24, 2008. The award ceremony coincided with an exhibition showcasing McFadden's designs and personal textile collection. Mary McFadden: Goddesses, on view August 28 through December 6, 2008 in The Galleries at Moore will travel to the National Museum for Women in the Arts in the spring of 2009. As part of the ongoing festivities planned for the College's 160th Anniversary, McFadden will return as a guest critic for the 2009 Spring Fashion Show.

The exhibition runs June 20 through July 13, 2008. An opening reception is scheduled for June 22, 2 - 5 pm.

Anne Seidman, Graphic Design Professor and Illustration department faculty at Moore, has been awarded a prestigious 2008 Pew Fellowships in the Arts. She is one of twelve Philadelphia-area artists to receive the fellowship.

Fine Arts: 2D and Fine Arts: 3D Chair and Professor, Paul Hubbard, has been elected as Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors (RSBS). Hubbard was originally elected to the RSBS in 2005 as an associate member.

Twelve works by Moore students and alumnae from the juried exhibition Art in City Hall: Fairmount Park's Colonial Elite, will be on display later this month at the Fairmount Park Welcome Center in Love Park.
