The Interior Design Department encourages students to become creative and responsible interior designers. Courses explore the broad intellectual development required to become leaders in the field, as well as the professional skills needed to launch successful careers in interior design.
Studio experiences emphasize both imaginative and critical thinking and support the development of the skills necessary to be an interior design professional, including mastering the technology that is used by practicing professionals. Tours, lectures and field studies of Philadelphia’s well-known historic interiors and contemporary architecture reinforce classroom instruction and studio projects.
Most graduates practice as commercial or residential designers. In addition, students have entered careers in furniture and set design, facilities management, project management and product sales. The program also provides a foundation for continued study in exhibition design, sculptural installation, interactive design, or advanced degrees in a design specialty, architecture or environmental theory. Graduates from Moore’s Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) program, formerly FIDER, are eligible to take professional licensing examinations and join professional organizations.
