Moore’s computer and digital media courses offer state-of-the-art training for professionals in many arts, communications, graphics, printing and web design careers. Learn the basics of design, computer graphics as well as complex computer imagery and software.
Designed to introduce digital arts within the Mac environment and acquaints students with terminology, scanning, digital photography, storage and formats. Class projects include computer animation, web design, digital painting, layout design, vector creation and image editing. Students will become acquainted with the Adobe Creative Suite 3 products, allowing for a strong foundation for future digital media software applications.
InDesign does print design better than any other program. The transparency, effects and typographical control missing from other page layout programs are thrilling. This course emphasizes how InDesign works seamlessly with images from Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat.
Learn what InDesign can do with ads, posters, brochures and books and then how to package designs for print, interactivity, or the web.
Creating high-resolution illustrations is essential in today’s design world. Focus on Adobe Illustrator software and learn how to create high-quality vector graphics and illustrations for print production and web design. Each class introduces new tools, drawing techniques and helpful tips for developing professional images.
The ability to capture scanned images and alter them using high-end photo retouching software has dramatically improved the versatility and efficiency for professional designers, photographers and artists. Students will be introduced to flatbed scanning and the vast range of Adobe Photoshop’s filters and editing tools, as well as the utilization of layers and masks. Projects include photo retouching and collage, producing high quality digital halftones and processing color separations for publications.
Continuing the study of electronic publishing, this course focuses on the use of color in page layout and design. Spot and process color print jobs and manual and automatic procedures for trapping are covered in detail. Students will learn to prepare files for service bureaus and printers. Projects utilize such programs as InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
Hypertext Markup Language or HTML, is the code that underlies almost all web pages. Students will learn how HTML is written, beginning with the basics and building toward interactive pages, web graphics, tables, frames, forms, style sheets. More complex topics such as CSS (cascading style sheets) and DHTML (dynamic hypertext markup language) animation are covered. Instruction includes critical skill building for determining good page design. With Dreamweaver, students will learn how to generate complex sites and pages quickly and professionally. Other features of Dreamweaver covered include libraries and templates.
Many institutions depend on a wide variety of computer-generated presentation and sales materials ranging from color slides and overhead transparencies to automated multimedia videos. After an overview of traditional technologies used to produce these materials, this course combines the latest in web animation tools used to automate production and improve the quality of professional presentation materials. Students learn to create animated banners, logos and comics using sound and scanned imagery. Assignments give students the opportunity to create a variety of presentation pieces that include custom graphics and illustrations.
Building upon a working knowledge of HTML, Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver, this course introduces GIF and JPEG formats, image-ready graphics, rasterizing graphics for rollover animation and for creating text and graphics specifically for the Web. Students will also cover page slices and optimizing, layers and frames with layers, dynamic HTML and building full HTML pages. The course will culminate in the completion of a professional or personal web site, which will include site layout and design, production of graphics and text, production of pages, link testing and uploading materials to the web.
