Entrance Requirements for Moore’s MFA in Interior Design Program

  • Bachelors Degree
  • 3.0 Minimum GPA

Portfolio Requirements

  • 10-15 pieces demonstrating evidence of competency in drawing plans, elevation sections and axonometric views. Portfolio must include at least 2 observational drawings of an interior space.
  • A 3-5 page writing sample demonstrating the ability to perform academic writing

Two pre-program workshops will ensure that entering candidates have the requisite baseline drafting, drawing and design skills for the Foundation Studio and Perspective Drawing/Rendering courses required in the first summer term of the graduate program:

Application

The application deadline for Summer 2011 is February 1, 2011.

Fall workshop: (Optional. Strongly recommended for students with bachelor’s degrees in any field)

The 5-week (30 hour) fall workshop is scheduled prior to the February application deadline. The workshop will encompass observational drawing with the use of varied media including some color. Drawing instruction will include studies in perspective drawing. The workshop will assist prospective candidates develop drawing skills and develop portfolio materials prior to application to the graduate program.

Spring workshop: (Required for all students)

The 5-week (30 hour) spring semester workshop is required. This workshop will focus on architectural drafting and freehand drawing during the two evenings sessions and visual fundamentals during the 6-hour Saturday session. Visual fundamentals will include studies in form, color and basic 3D design. Candidates who have been conditionally accepted without a strong portfolio must successfully pass this workshop with a grade of B and resubmit portfolio work for review before entering the program. The department can waive this workshop.
