EMERGING PATTERNS OF EDUCATION
ED 203 3 credit hours Fall Thurs 6:40-9:30pm
An introductory course where students examine education: including 20 hours of observation in elementary, middle, and high school and local art museums. Readings, research, verbal presentations and exams are required.
ART METHODOLOGY & CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT I & II
ED 321, 322 6 credit hours Fall/Spring Mon or Tues 6:40-9:30pm
A two semester sequential course in how, why, and what to teach in elementary, middle, and secondary art classrooms. This course starts in the fall with development of art lessons that meet state education standards. Reading, research, presentations, lesson demonstrations, and group critiques are required.
IMPACT OF BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES ON EDUCATION
ED 313 3 credit hours Spring Wed 6:40-9:30pm
An introduction to developmental studies of behavior and cognition. Emphasis is on how students learn and use information and skills in art classes. Readings, discussions, and written papers are required.
LABORATORY EXPERIENCES & PRACTICUM
ED 326 1.5 credit hours Fall/Spring Sat 1-4 pm
Students will assist certified art teachers in Moore’s Young Artists Workshop and teach at least 2 lessons. Discussions, lesson presentation, and readings are required.
SPECIAL POPULATIONS
ED 327 3 credit hours Fall/Spring Sat 8:30-12pm
Students gain knowledge of teaching and applying art education strategies to accommodate children with special needs. Special education laws and regulations required by the state and federal government are learned. Moore art education students teach an art lesson to children with special needs under the guidance of a certified teacher. Readings, research, and lesson presentation are required.
STUDENT TEACHING
ED 501 9 credit hours Fall/Spring 60 full days
This is a twelve-week teaching experience under the guidance of a certified art teacher and with the assessment and assistance of a Moore Supervisor. Placements are made by the Chair with input from the student and art education faculty. Weekly seminars are required.
Intern certificates are available to those who have teaching experience and have passed both the Praxis I and the Praxis II (Fundamental Subjects: Content Knowledge and Art Content Knowledge), as well as passed the first two Art Ed. courses with a GPA of 3.0.
