Joan has a PhD in French literature and originally came to Moore in 1977 to teach in the Liberal Arts Department. She has been Dean of Students since 1990. One of her principal roles is as an advocate for students, from chairing the Retention Committee—which looks at students’ evaluations of their Moore experience—to problem-solving with students that are experiencing personal and/or academic difficulties. She continues to teach one course a semester.
Ruth has a background in student personnel administration. She oversees the two residence halls at Moore and is the staff member in charge of the student Residence Life Staff. She has been at Moore for seven years. She supervises the Emerging Leaders in the Arts program, where over their four years at Moore students are introduced to issues related to group interaction, volunteer in arts-related organizations, shadow professionals in the arts and, as seniors, form a support team as they launch themselves as young artists.
Ruth has been at Moore for 18 years and, therefore, has a great deal of experience working with artists. She provides individual counseling for students on a wide range of issues from college adjustment problems to more complex personal difficulties. She also serves as a liaison with outside psychologists and psychiatrists, as needed.
Diane came to Moore in the fall of 1998. She has extensive background as a nurse in women’s health issues. She sees students on a one-on-one basis and she serves as the liaison with outside physicians, helping students arrange for appointments when they are needed, and then following up with the student and her doctor afterwards, if necessary.
Jeanette Wintjen started her position at Moore as Assistant to the Dean of Students in 2004. She has an art background with a BFA in drawing, painting and printmaking. Prior to coming to Moore, she worked as a marking coordinator and office administrator for a software company in Boston. At Moore, besides being the administrative assistant in Student Services, she works with the Student Orientation Staff welcoming incoming students and organizing community service projects for the Moore community.
As Moore’s Facilities Rentals Coordinator, Emily Johnson works with outside organizations and individuals that want to rent the public spaces at the College. She also serves as Chief Hearing Officer for the student judicial system and is in charge of Moore’s IDs. She has a background in the arts, having earned a BA in art history and taken numerous studio art and museum studies courses. She has been at Moore since the spring of 2007.
