9th – 12th Grade Students

Ultimate Young Artists Workshop offers high school students the opportunity to get a head start on the summer by participating in five exciting Saturdays of fun-filled courses in the visual arts and design.  Each class meets from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with a break for lunch.  Contact the Continuing Education department at 215.965.4030 or ce@moore.edu for registration or program information.

Fashion Illustration
Saturdays, May 15, 2010 – June 19, 2010 (no class, May 29)
Tuition $335
Study the basic elements of fashion design as a background for your drawings. Learn about the trends, movements and designers in the world of costume and fashion. Instruction on how best to illustrate your ideas inspired by various cultures and clothing of the past.

Computers, Cartoons & Comics
Saturdays, May 15, 2010 – June 19, 2010 (no class, May 29)
Tuition $335
Conceptualize and create your own comic and cartoon narratives with instruction on story creation, comic storytelling, penciling, inking and hand lettering.  Completion of projects and assignments will utilize state-of-the art Mac computer labs with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to develop digital coloring and lettering methods.

Philadelphia Sketchbook

Saturdays, May 15, 2010 – June 19, 2010 (no class, May 29)
Tuition $335
Explore Philadelphia’s history and culture by sketching the landscape, architecture, people and happenings. Possible sites include the Italian Market, Penn’s Landing, South Street, Washington Square, Reading Terminal, the Rodin Museum and Philadelphia Museum of Art. Emphasis is placed on experimentation and creativity, using a variety of materials and collage. Students may expand upon their sketches to create larger in-class drawings. Instruction on composition, perspective, materials and arrangement.

Pop Art Painting
Saturdays, May 15, 2010 – June 19, 2010 (no class, May 29)
Tuition $335
Unlike traditional studio and still-life painting, this course encourages imagination and creativity to reinterpret scenes and imagery from everyday life (for example, artist Andy Warhol’s graphic/commercial prints and paintings).  Work in a similarly abstract style to create paintings, drawings, and collages.

Urban Photography
Saturdays, May 15, 2010 – June 19, 2010 (no class, May 29)
Tuition $335
Studio fee $50
Explore city sites and learn techniques, skills, and principles to find and capture the mood of the moment.  Students should bring a digital or 35 mm camera with light meter to the first class.  Please note that darkroom experience is not included.
Prerequisite:  Basic photography experience.

Silkscreen Printing
Saturdays, May 15, 2010 – June 19, 2010 (no class, May 29)
Tuition $335
Studio fee $50
Silk-screened images appeal to a wide range of interests, from fine art and textile design to commercial printing, as on apparel and posters.  Learn the process of making multiples (an edition) of sketches and drawings to create dynamic compositions.  Experiment with color, texture and transparent/opaque inks.  Ideal for all ranges of experience in drawing, painting and design.
